Banquet Quebec

The objects of the arts and crafts have the power to create an image. Thus, through their form, materiality and symbolism, they contribute to shaping our imaginations as well as our identities. It is through a body of work with meaningful narratives, taking an insightful and poetic look at the issues of our world, that Quebec unveils, between furniture, ceramics and textiles, a new innovative creative vocabulary.for these studios of semi-precious stones, textiles and mosaics, between technical tradition and formal innovation.

A WORD FROM THE CURATOR AUDREY CAREAU

Craft objects have the power to create imagery. They help shape our imaginations as well as our identities. Combining cabinetry with leather marquetry, Atelier C.U.B.’s creations plunge us into lands where dreams and rhythm joyously contrast with the rationality of today’s world. Paul Guidera’s sculptures reinterpret ancestral ceramic forms to create metaphorical narratives that revalorize the figure of the monster. Milady Hartmann’s anthropomorphic works sensuously combine textiles and paper in organic shapes evoking the symbiosis of the human and the living. Symbols of power and resistance, Véronique Martel’s feminist ceramics explore individual and collective strengths to offer a reflection on self-affirmation. It is also through this body of meaningful work that Quebec reveals the innovation, quality, and creativity of its artisans.
