What does it mean to you and to the Grand Palais to be hosting Révélations, the international fine craft and creation biennal?
Hosting Révélations at the Grand Palais means celebrating a natural marriage between this historic monument and the exceptional know-how that has shaped its history. With its refined mosaics, elegant ironwork and famous glass roof, the Grand Palais is itself a masterpiece of French craftsmanship. It has always been a symbol of innovation and creativity, hosting fashion, arts and culture. The biennial is ideally suited to this setting, confirming the central role of the Grand Palais in the transmission and promotion of fine crafts, whether traditional or forward-looking.
How do you view the creative and restorative fine crafts, particularly considering the 4,000 journeymen who worked on the Grand Palais?
Fine crafts, whether restoration or creation, are essential to the preservation and transmission of our heritage. The craftspeople who have worked on the Grand Palais have sublimated this architectural heritage, ensuring its longevity for future generations. Their know-how, both ancestral and living, illustrates the need to maintain and develop these professions.
Révélations brings the public face to face with the creators. What are your thoughts on this?
By cutting out the middlemen, Révélations offers an immediate connection between the creator, the work and the public. This direct dialogue desacralizes the artistic gesture and demonstrates that culture is not only alive, but also within everyone's reach.
What are you expecting from this 7th edition?
We want it to be widely known, to attract a diverse public and to reveal to as many people as possible the richness and modernity of the fine crafts. In the newly restored Grand Palais, the creations on display will interact with the history and architecture of the venue, paying tribute to these know-how, which are both inherited from the past and resolutely contemporary, celebrating excellence and creativity.
