Vincent Billiard General Manager of Hôtel de Crillon, a Rosewood Hotel reveals his favorite creations

Majestically overlooking the Place de la Concorde, the Hôtel de Crillon has been cultivating an authentic French art de vivre since 1909. From the Grands Appartements by Karl Lagerfeld to the residential-style rooms, this former private mansion has created an incomparable atmosphere of contemporary refinement that respects the establishment's heritage. The Hôtel de Crillon is one of the most renowned Parisian palaces, its elegance and timelessness making it an exceptional place in the capital. The hotel was renovated in 2017 after 4 years of work, during which numerous craftsmen were called upon to create the new decor.

Today, the Hôtel de Crillon also hosts temporary exhibitions, unique creations fashioned by numerous art craftsmen with excellent skills, which the public will be able to see again at the Révélations trade show.

Révélations asked Vincent Billiard, the hotel's General Manager, a few questions about his relationship with the arts and crafts. He shares with us his favorites from among the designers present at the show.

What importance do you attach to craftsmanship at the Hôtel de Crillon?

The Hôtel de Crillon, with its history and emblematic architecture, embodies an exceptional cultural heritage. Craftsmanship plays a vital role in preserving and enhancing this heritage. We work year-round with exceptional craftsmen to maintain the timeless elegance of our spaces, while respecting traditional craftsmanship techniques. During the renovation of the hotel, 147 craftsmen worked together to showcase their unique skills.

How do your exhibitions impact your international clientele?

Our guests have a very pronounced taste for art, and are often sensitive to the authenticity and uniqueness of the objects and creations they have the opportunity to discover at the hotel. Exhibiting works of art in our common areas, such as the lobby, Boudoir and dining areas, allows them to explore a unique artistic dimension.

What's your interest in coming to Révélations, the international biennial of arts and crafts?

Révélations is an opportunity for us to gain a global view of the evolution of French artisans and current and future trends. A renowned event such as this one enables us to continue our search for the most unique works that perfectly match the prestige of the hotel and the high expectations of our clientele.

For you, as general manager of this hotel, why is it essential to support and promote the arts and crafts?

Artistic crafts help to preserve and pass on traditional French know-how. By supporting these crafts, we contribute to the preservation and enhancement of our cultural heritage. The integration of arts and crafts within the hotel offers our guests a unique visual and sensory experience. It's essential for us to create a sincere and humble approach to our artists, so that we can continue to support and promote these arts and crafts.

« Mane Phély's pieces are like trompe l'oeil. This unique piece dresses the walls in precious, noble materials, even though it's cardboard. Its transformation is spectacular, and arouses emotion.»

« Marika M. handles straw marquetry marvelously. I appreciate the transgression of this ancestral skill, completely revisited. Her paintings are definitely modern and lively. »

« I love the original and subtle work of Alyssa Jos, who transforms simple leaves into a noble material. We presented her pieces in autumn to create a subtle, poetic atmosphere. The mirror was displayed under the starry sky of the Boudoir, allowing customers to discover a whole new view of the chandelier and ceiling. »
